Vietnam history
Vietnam’s history began thousands of years ago with ancient kingdoms and was followed by over a millennium of Chinese rule, which profoundly influenced its culture and government. After gaining independence in the 10th century, a series of Vietnamese dynasties ruled, expanding the nation’s territory southward. The 19th century saw the arrival of French colonialism, which lasted until their defeat in 1954, resulting in the country’s division into a communist North and a US-backed South. This division led to the protracted and devastating Vietnam War, which ended in 1975 with the victory of the North and the country’s reunification under communist rule. Since then, Vietnam has undergone significant economic reforms and has emerged as a rapidly developing nation in Southeast Asia.
